Entertain me....

Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook know that I get bored easily & am randomly prone to challenging/asking my friends to entertain me.

Whether it's answering questions about themselves, me or life in general, coming up with short stories on topics I pick because or just commenting on random things that pop into our (collective) heads, I look to others to entertain me, because I'm bored/lazy/squirrel-brained?whatever.

I'm now going to attempt the same thing here.  Yes, this does require audience participation, so if you are not inclined to be silly because I want you to, go ahead, click one of the links on my 'Friends' page & experience some of the awesomeness that is the people I love.

If you've got nothing better to do, click 'Read More'....
Great, now that I went through all the work of hyping this up in my head & then typing all that up for your enjoyment, I plum forgot what I was going to do. My poor little braintrain completely derailed & started wandering the forest looking for pixies & sprites. Typical me.

***********Thirty-nine second pause for my train to get back on track****************

Fun fact: in my house we often run on "Hawaiian Time" or "Football Time" as the Stork knows it.  This is when you have an exaggerated sense of time in either direction. For example, I said I was taking a Thirty-nine second break, when in actuality I was gone for more than an hour, because phone calls & adulty things happened.

Anyway, here's my thing.  Remember, participation is mandatory at this point, because you did not click somewhere else & run away. Not regrets kids, this is all strictly for fun.  (Certainly not for the Feline Underling's evil world domination statistical purposes.)

Now because of my previous derailment & subsequent forgetting of how to brain, I have decided to start with a thinky type question. Just don't think so hard you hurt yourself, I refuse to take responsibility for your injuries simply because I'll be tending to my own.

You know how some in some cultures they have symbols/totems/spirit guides? Things that have some significant meaning to individuals or groups, that shape their behaviors, guide them through challenging situations, guard them in times of need, etc.  For example, Hawaiians have ʻaumākua.

My question to you is this: Do you have something, whether it be an object, shape, animal, symbol, color, etc that guides you or has a recurring role in your life? If so, what is it & why do you think this has such significance in your life?

For instance, in my life the one overwhelming recurring theme/symbol that follows/haunts/guides me is the heart.  Not necessarily the actual organ, but more the shape & what it represents. You see I've been noticing more & more lately that when I'm especially conflicted/stressed/turbulent/whatever, I tend to draw or be drawn to the heart shape.  I think is because that shape generally symbolizes love. I've always been blessed enough to have been surrounded by love. I was raised with love, have made friends through love, was taught to act with & share my love. Love has always comforted me, supported me & guided me in every aspect of my life. And following my heart has never been difficult for me, just ask cawfee.

So, now it's your turn to go think about it. You can share in the comments here or on Facebook (preferably on my Stuffed with Aloha page).  Don't worry about what others might think of your answer either, this is about you & me getting to know each other.  Because I was bored.

Aloha hugs,
-Clare

To answer your question Clare I have always been influenced by music. I here certain songs and it reminds me of certain people in my life. It calms me when I am in need of calming, it comforts me when I need comfort and it draws me to others.

Ah yes, music can soothe the soul & guide us as well. I think it's cool that you can recognize the fact that music can draw you to others. Of course you know I can't hear a Garth Brooks song without thinking of you. ;)

I agree with Tina about music. It has always been a comfort and a pick me up and a way to drown out all the thoughts running through my head. But, so that I am contributing to this discussion in a different way, I will also say books also offer me a way to escape and recenter myself. And I mean a real paper and binding book. Not its digital offspring. That does nothing for me. The feel and smell of a book and a way to get out of my own head for a while. That is my go to when I am out of balance with the world. Sadly I do not remember the last book I read. Therein lies my problem!

Yes! Real, paper filled books are absolutely the best. Funny how influential a good book can be on a person, yet most don't think of them as spiritually guiding as music or other totems (for lack of a better term).

I'm with Tina on music. Also trees, when I was younger I'd often go climb a tree to think things out or escape, but now I just like to be near them.

Oooh, I had forgotten about trees! It's easy to forget the things that seem to keep us grounded isn't it?

I used to love climbing trees & just sitting hidden amongst the branches daydreaming or plotting revenge against my sister or parents, usually because I couldn't get away with something. As I grew older & my family moved to houses with fewer trees nearby I turned to music. Music then transitioned to books after I went to college & just needed quiet...

I still have moments though when a song will help me figure out what I need to do, a book will remind me of what it is I wanted or a certain tree will make me realize that I just need to stop & think for a bit. Interesting how our totems can change with time, but still have power in our lives through our memories.
