Why wouldn't you?

Sorry I've been away for a bit.  Things.  Stuff.  Life.  You know how it is.

This past week was the last week of summer vacation for my boys & we've been, well you know how it goes.  We tried to pack a few fun things into this week.

Like this...
Imagine if you will, coming home from work one day, dog tired, mentally worn out from having to deal with "PEOPLE".

You pull into your driveway (or parking spot), do the usual getting out of the car routine & head into your house (or place of residence).  You walk through the door & once inside grab the doorknob to shut the door behind you.

Would you notice this?

Would you?  Or would you continue with your getting home routine?  Would you  walk through your home & not notice this?

Or this?

You're probably telling yourself that you'd notice.  Right?  After all, no show ankle socks on doorknobs is not a normal occurrence.  Or are you so tired & oblivious that it takes you more than a bit to notice?  Like maybe a few more rooms?

I know, now you're asking (me) "Why?"  What in the world would possess (you) anyone to do such a thing?  Well, here's my answer...

         Why wouldn't you!?!

Seriously, why not put sock on the doorknobs?  Why not put a stuffed snake around the top of your television? (Yes, his name was Steve & he sadly perished in "The Great House Fire of '09".)   Why not be silly every now & then?  Just to keep 'em guessing.

The pictures you've been enjoying happened in my house yesterday.  They are the result of one of those rare moments we mothers cherish.  You know, alone time, aka "I'm in the bathroom go away!"

Yes, I do some of my best thinking in the bathroom, but who doesn't?

Anyway, I decided that doorknob socks needed to be done. Then a week went by.  Then I decided the time was right.  So I turned to my boys & asked "Who wants to help me put socks on the doorknobs?!"

Chicken sniggered.  Squab chuckled.  Then Squab asked (while performing that sputtering laugh he does when he's both amused & stunned by my brilliance) "Why?"

         Why wouldn't you!?!

We giggled as we worked.  Taking extra pains to make sure that none of the matching pairs ended up on the same door.  It didn't take the three of us very long, but when we finished, we had successfully distributed twelve pairs of socks to their doorknobs.

When the Stork arrived home, he passed six of those doors & handled at least three before anything registered. In the end, it was the act of closing the pantry door that did it.

We did it upstairs too.

It turned out that this little act of silliness was a welcome break to an extremely hard day.  Of course when he asked why, we replied in unison...

      Why wouldn't you!?!

So my loves, the next time a snippet of silly enters your brain & urges you to commit a random act of harmless absurdity (non-violent of course), but your rational adult brain challenges it.  When your responsible mind asks you "why on earth would anyone do that?" I ask you to simply ask yourself...

Why wouldn't you?

You never know when the result might make someone's day.

Aloha hugs,
~Clare

Hah! Now there's a challenge and I am up for it. After jokey criticism from my love about the presentation of his packed lunch I was tempted to add a triangle cut sandwich topped by a cucumber flower and a score card but I resisted!!!
And I regretted resisting.
So I shall give him a Michelin starred packed lunch after the weekend with bells on just for the ' why wouldn't you'.
